BACnet certification for Smart Actuator

15 December 2022 | Media releases

BACnet certification for Smart Actuator

The Smart Actuator has received the BACnet certification as B-ASC (Application-Specific Controller). The certificate is the verification of the conformity of the Smart Actuator by an independent BACnet test laboratory and confirms the interoperability with other certified BACnet products.

The Smart Actuator enables problem-free, autonomous control in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. SAUTER provides programs for controlling HVAC applications and for intelligent unitary control. When setting up individual plants, planners and installers have a wide range of applications to choose from.

All of the Smart Actuator functions provided have been developed and validated by a SAUTER team of experts. The field devices required for the application can be connected directly to the actuator via two universal I/Os. The optional I/O box allows the range of applications to be extended comprehensively.

The intelligent solution for smart buildings

The IoT-capable SAUTER Smart Actuator is easy to commission. The connector system in combination with pre-assembled cables ensures particularly fast and error-free installation. The mechanical and colour coding prevents wiring errors.

Installers are supported by the smartphone app. All functions are accessed intuitively:

  • Identification
  • Selecting the application
  • Defining the setting parameters
  • Integration into the BA network or the cloud

Operating data can be graphically visualised via the SAUTER cloud. Thus, plant optimisations are carried out online via the MobileApp and the remote control is enabled.

BACnet certification

Building users do not notice BACnet, but for the technology and the devices in the field of building and room automation, there is no way around the BACnet standard. It has become the most important communication protocol in the industry. Simply put, the protocol defines the rules for the data exchange between individual HVAC and building automation devices. The certification programme of the BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL) issues products with a certificate of conformity (i.e. inclusion in the BTL list). This certificate confirms that the documented functional scope complies with the standard, and it carries the BTL logo. All BTL-certified products from SAUTER are officially registered on the following website: https://bacnetinternational.net/btl

SAUTER Head Office was the target of a cyber security incident on November 20, 2024. SAUTER’s IT department immediately activated, well defined, internal emergency plans. All IT systems were completely isolated and shut down to successfully prevent the attack from spreading. External cybersecurity experts and data forensics specialists then began to check all systems and restore them securely. This process is unfortunately time-consuming, but absolutely necessary to ensure that the cyber-attack does not continue at a later date.

The SAUTER websites have been affected by the emergency operation and are available again with immediate effect.

There are currently no concrete indications that our customers' infrastructures have been compromised in any way by SAUTER devices. It appears to be an opportunistic incident with no clearly recognisable long-term goals or systematic attacks. The situation does not currently suggest that there is a targeted, sustained threat to the affected systems.
